The movie “Obsession” made waves this summer, as the low-budget horror film from 26 year old director Curry Barker earned a whopping $475 million (and counting). It’s left a lot of critics, filmmakers, and film-lovers wondering – why? Why are audiences obsessed with Obsession?
With it’s tight script, strong leading performances, technical prowess, and relatable themes, the answer could simply be that Obsession is a good movie.
You might be thinking, “but there are TONS of good movies that haven’t had word-of-mouth reviews spread like wildfire.” And you’d be right! But instead of questioning the success of Obsession, we’d rather celebrate it by bringing attention to other great films that may have flown under your radar. Some of the movies recommended by our contributor team this month share themes with the film Obsession, some share vibes, some are just great movies about infatuation. Check out our Obsession list below and let us know what you think on Twitter, Bluesky, or Instagram!
